Rep. Tim Walz (D-MN) was elected Ranking Member of the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs on January 9, 2017. He is the highest ranking enlisted soldier to serve in Congress. He replaces Mark Takano, of California, who took over after Corrine Brown, of Florida, was indicted on federal charges related to a nonprofit charity in July 2016 and stepped down as ranking member. With the election of Ranking Member Walz, the leadership of both the House and Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committees is now set for the 115th Congress. Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-GA) will continue as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs. As announced back in November, Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT) replaced Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) as the ranking member of that committee.
